Today marks the last day of National Apprenticeship Week, which celebrates apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

Intouch Advance joined the Apprenticeship scheme last year and offered two young people the opportunity to develop their professional skills and gain on the job training.

To mark National Apprenticeship Week, we have asked our Apprentices about their experience of their apprenticeship and working at Intouch Advance to date, below are their stories.

Leah Short took up an apprenticeship in Finance Administrator in August 2014 in order to earn formal qualifications alongside work experience and describes her experience as follows:

“I support the Head of Finance ensuring all invoices are raised and paid on time and that we are being charged the correct rates from suppliers, as well as giving the agreed rates to customers.

So far I have learnt a lot about the different customers we have and the suppliers we use. I am developing a knowledge of the telecom background and how it changes so much and so often, as well as constantly using programmes such as Excel, Ebillz and Sage to broaden my IT skills.

I am thoroughly enjoying working for Intouch Advance. Every day I’m learning new skills and have met some fantastic people along the way.”

Chris Spriggs, joined Intouch Advance in September 2014 to gain experience as IT Support, he said:

“Rather than learning in a classroom environment, I decided to join the Apprenticeships scheme.  I secured a full time, paid placement at Intouch Advance and am studying alongside for the NVQ in Information Technology qualification, which I will complete in one year.

Initially my role was to provide IT support to staff, which has now expanded to providing technical support to Intouch Advance customers. I am gaining insights into the telecoms sector and my duties include network monitoring, fault logging and troubleshooting amongst others.

I have also been getting some exposure in Marketing, using my existing skills in video editing and assisting with social media activities.

I have already learned so much from my mentor at Intouch Advance and I enjoy the new challenges my role offers every day. Learning in a work environment was definitely the right decision for me!”

Intouch Advance support apprenticeships for staff in a variety of roles across its business including IT, finance, sales and customer service. To find out about existing opportunities and how to apply please visit Intouch Advance’s Apprenticeship page.
