What’s Happening – In 2025, PSTN is being switched off by BT Openreach, which means everyone, including businesses, currently using PSTN-based services will need to move to another service before the deadline. While 2025 might seem a while away, BT Openreach are already beginning to switch off PSTN services from a number of exchanges in the UK and as of December 2023, you won’t be able to purchase any new ISDN or PSTN services. What Services are impacted – The PSTN switch-off will affect single analogue lines, copper broadband services such as ADSL and FTTC, and all ISDN services including ISDN2 and ISDN30.
What services can I upgrade to – Many of BT’s exchanges have already undergone the necessary upgrades, meaning that most businesses can now take advantage of the latest broadband products. FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) and SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) allow you to order broadband without the need for a PSTN line, so you have everything you need in one single order and these services won’t be impacted by the PSTN switch off.
